56km to Kuala Tahan
We have trekked 4 days and covered 44km. Now that is the distance from Sg. Relau to Tahan in a straight line. According to one ranger that distance is multiplied by 2 and a half to 3 times based on the undulating ground. At this moment it makes no difference as we are in the middle of our journey and Kuala Tahan, the eventual destination is another 56km.
So we trekked on after spending about half an hour at the peak. I am not thinking of the 56km but my thoughts are on the next campsite. Weather is good and cooling but the sun is high up now and we will not have the protection of the canopies all the way right up to camp.
The trail ahead is clearly marked by the sparse vegetation on the trek. It's pretty rocky and it's pretty damp in certain areas too. It's like a water catchment area perhaps this is the beginnings of the waterfalls we find at the foothills. Where i stand one can see the whole trail till the peak of yonder knoll.
Cool as it may be, notice that both my arms are getting rather tanned by now. I'm still all smiles not knowing i'm being burned brown right here right now. That backpack still weights 18 kilos to me not that i notice it anymore. We have become one.
Apparently i am not the only one breathless. Taking a breather and a fag by the wayside while enjoying the dancing of the clouds and mist.
The shrubs remain low to the ground with lots of moss clinging to it making them look like they are bearded all the way to camp.
